A little about our governors

Phil Lakin – (Chair of Governors, LA Governor)

I have been a governor at Bracken Hill School since about 2000 eventually serving first as the Vice Chair and since 2013 as the Chair of Governors.

I have lived in Kirkby-in-Ashfield for over 27 years. My links with the local community also include being a member of the Management Committee for Ashwood Community Resource, a local community centre serving an area of high deprivation.

My interests are in striving to ensure that those most disadvantaged are given every opportunity and help to improve their circumstances.  I use my professional skills as a project developer and fundraising manager for a national charity to help the School access funding.

These skills came in handy whilst working closely with the Headteacher during the negotiations with the District and County Council s regarding the School leasing what is now called Bracken Hill College.

I have been married for 30 years and I have two adult children.

Sue Hudson – (Vice Chair of Governors, LA Governor)

I have been a Governor at Bracken Hill for over ten years and enjoy being part of the Governing Body and visiting the school.  I have recently been elected Vice Chair of Governors.

I grew up in Sutton- in -Ashfield and have lived in Kirkby for the over 22 years.  I am married and have two grown up sons, so have plenty of experience with teenagers!

My background is in Education. I was a teacher for almost 40 years, 38 of them at what is now Sutton Community Academy. For many years I was the Special Educational Needs Coordinator (SENCO), so I feel I have a good understanding of the needs of students and how to meet them.  I also have years of experience working together with children, their parents and carers, and other professionals to make sure the children are happy and safe in and out of school and are making the best progress they can. I hope to use these professional skills for the benefit of the school.

I am newly retired, so am looking forward to having more time to develop my role as Vice Chair of Governors.
