    Website Accessibility Statement

Bracken Hill School is committed to making sure that everyone in our school community can access our building, lessons, information, and activities. We aim to remove barriers so that all pupils, families, staff, and visitors can take part fully in school life.

    Our Commitment

We want our school to be:

    • Safe
    • Welcoming
    • Easy to use
    • Inclusive for everyone

This includes people with physical disabilities, sensory needs, learning differences, communication needs, and mental‑health needs.

    How We Support Accessibility

We have put the following in place:

    Around the School

    • Step‑free routes to key areas of the building
    • Wide doorways and corridors
    • Accessible toilets and changing facilities
    • Visual symbols and signs to help with way‑finding
    • Calm spaces available for pupils who need a quiet environment
    • Ramps, lifts, and handrails where needed

    • Structured transition for students new to school

    In the Classroom

    • Lessons adapted to meet individual needs
    • Use of communication aids (e.g., symbols, PECS, communication boards, voice output devices)
    • Different learning materials, such as large print, simplified language, or sensory resources
    • Support from specialist staff (e.g., speech and language therapists, occupational therapists)
    • Adjusted lighting and reduced noise where possible

    Information and Communication

    • Information available in different formats (easy read, symbols, large print, audio) on request

    • Staff trained in alternative communication methods
    • Website designed to be readable and simple to navigate

    What We Are Working On

We know we can always keep improving. Over the next year, we aim to:

    • Review signage to make navigation even clearer
    • Increase accessible digital learning resources
    • Continue staff training on accessibility and inclusive practice
