Welcome to Bracken Hill School. As Chair of Governors, I am delighted to have the opportunity to introduce myself and to share why I feel so proud to be part of this very special school community.
I have been involved in school governance for around a decade, and during that time I have seen the difference that thoughtful, constructive governance can make. Governors play an important role in supporting and challenging the school, helping to ensure that children’s needs, wellbeing and future opportunities remain at the heart of decision-making.
My connection with special educational needs and disabilities is also deeply personal. As a parent, I understand some of the joys, challenges, frustrations and hopes that can come with navigating SEND support and services. I also have parent-side experience of Looked After Children, which has given me a strong appreciation of the importance of stability, trust, understanding and high expectations.
From September, that personal connection with Bracken Hill will become even stronger, as both my children will be attending the school. This gives me a very real understanding of the trust families place in the school team, and of how important it is that children feel safe, included and encouraged.
Outside my role as Chair of Governors, I work as the Senior Accountant responsible for Adult Social Care in Nottinghamshire. My professional background has given me experience in leadership, strategic planning, financial management, accountability and partnership work, all of which I bring to my role in governance.
Bracken Hill is part of Esteem Multi Academy Trust, and I am proud that our school sits within a wider family of specialist provision committed to inclusion, aspiration and helping children thrive.
I am passionate about supporting our children to be the very best that they can be. To me, that means recognising each child’s strengths, celebrating progress in all its forms and helping every pupil to build confidence, independence and a strong sense of belonging.
As Chair of Governors, I look forward to continuing to support Bracken Hill School as it grows and develops, working with the school and Trust to help create the best possible opportunities for every child.
Clare Rickett
